AIG Women’s Open 2026

The AIG Women’s Open takes place at Royal Lytham & St Annes from Wednesday 29 July to Sunday 2 August 2026. The world’s leading female golfers will be playing at this prestigious Fylde Coast course, attracting significant visitor numbers to the area.  

Monday 18 May: The Championship build phases officially starts. Vehicle movement will begin around Royal Lytham & St Annes with the delivery of equipment and infrastructure to site.

Sunday 26 July: Players and caddies arrive and practice days commence. Entry is only valid with official accreditation as there is no public admission until Wednesday.

Wednesday 29 July: The first day public can enter the venue and watch some action. Please note this is still a practice day with a pro-ams taking place in the morning. Purchase tickets online here.

Thursday 30 July: Round 1 of the Championship starts.

Sunday 2 August: If there are no delays to play, Round 4 of the Championship should be completed by early evening.

Men’s Open 2028

Excellent news announced in May 2026 – the 156th Open Championship will return to Royal Lytham & St Annes. It’s back from 30 July to 6 August 2028 after a 16-year absence. Partners across the Fylde Coast are working alongside The R&A to once again host one of the world’s premier sporting events at one of the greatest links courses.

The historic Royal Lytham & St Annes course has hosted The Open 11 times. Most recently in 2012 when Ernie Els lifted his second Claret Jug and first hosting The Open in 1926 when Bobby Jones won the title. The Championship has been played in Lytham on ten previous occasions. A series of famous winners have been created here including Tony Jacklin, Tom Lehman, Gary Player and David Duval. Plus Seve Ballesteros claimed two Claret Jugs in 1979 and 1988.

Allan Oldfield is Chief Executive of Fylde Council. He said: “Partners have worked tirelessly over the last few years to secure the return of the Championship to the Fylde Coast. Solutions have been found to several logistical challenges that have arisen due to the growth and expansion of this major world event. We are delighted The R&A has made the decision to return to what is one of the best links golf courses in the world. The economic benefit to the Fylde and wider Lancashire region will be immense. Work is already underway to host the best Championship ever at Royal Lytham & St Annes in 2028, and on many other occasions to come.”
